After three years in the position, Henrik Lübker steps down as CEO of Design denmark on December 1, and the design association is now starting the process of finding a replacement

Design Denmark’s chairwoman, Lotte Lyngsted Jepsen, states:

“We have been incredibly pleased to have Henrik Lübker as CEO for the past three years. He has a strong strategic understanding, which has led to successful, member-oriented initiatives and networks. He has also positioned the association as a central player in and communicator of the Danish design landscape.

At the same time, he has spent time and energy strengthening the association’s administrative setup, which means that we are now even better equipped to create value for our members and communicate why Danish design and Danish designers make a difference nationally and internationally.”

Henrik Lübker has done the groundwork for Design denmark’s new strategy by turning the association’s negative equity into a positive one, digitalizing and streamlining the association’s administration, and implementing changes to the bylaws to ensure a more modern organization and strategic board.

“The Danish design scene is enormously fragmented, and there is a great need to bring together all the good players in the industry to ensure that Danish design remains one of Denmark’s strongest assets in the future. I’ll be cheering from the sidelines for the continued work in the association,” says Henrik Lübker and continues about his plans:

“I have been privileged and had the opportunity to climb some big mountains throughout my working life. It’s also only natural that, over time, you feel the urge to stop and ask yourself if the direction, if the mountain, is still right for you. But this can be difficult in a busy everyday life. I therefore look forward to slowing down for a moment and sensing which direction the second half of my working life should take.”

“We are now starting the process of finding a successor and encourage all relevant profiles to apply. We wish Henrik a good reflection break and look forward to seeing where he lands,” says Lotte Lyngsted Jepsen.

Henrik Lübker has a background as a PhD in literature, culture and communication, more than ten years of experience as a curator and creative director, and nearly three years as CEO of Design Denmark. He is also an external examiner in Design Studies and Cultural Studies at SDU and Aesthetics and Culture at AU, and he sits on several boards and advisory boards in the intersection between culture, innovation and education.

Design denmark is Denmark’s trade association for designers. The association has existed since 1946. Design denmark expects a new CEO in place by January 1, 2025.
