DAC folkemødet

What do the home improvement shows on TV do to Danish people’s housing dreams?

Date: June 13th
Time: 13.30 - 14.30
Location: C16 – BL – Danmarks Almene Boliger

Event organized by DAC in connection with Folkemødet.

Homes are renovated, built anew, replaced, sold, and bought, and we just can’t get enough. It seems almost insatiable; the Danish desire to indulge in their housing dreams through home improvement shows on TV, home magazines, and social media, offering everything from new construction to remodeling, home styling, and indispensable IKEA hacks. But do we end up dreaming about everything we should do, buy, and build much less of?

For this event, we binge everything from ‘Hammerslag’ to ‘Nybyggerne’ to find out what makes them so captivating, and what they do to our own housing dreams. And then we ask if it could be precisely the home improvement shows, influencers, and home magazines that make Danes dream of much more sustainable housing, interior design, and ways of living?

Anne Katrine Harders from DAC asks Mette Mechlenborg (expert in housing ideals and senior researcher at Aalborg University), Rasmus Jessing (architect and construction director at KAB), and Timme Bisgaard Munk (writer, analyst, and commentator at K-forum).

This event is FREE.
